How Does a Dental Bridge Work?
A dental bridge does what it sounds like — “bridging” the gap left behind by a missing tooth (or teeth). Unlike a crown supported by an implant, a bridge’s strength and stability comes from the neighboring teeth.
In some cases, implants on either side of the gap may serve as the attachment point for your bridge. In others, neighboring healthy teeth may be covered with a crown which will then hold the bridge in place.
Benefits of bridges:
- Create an even bite force, which makes chewing easy
- Small, lightweight, and very comfortable
- Made from high-tech materials, they’re both durable and designed to look and feel like natural teeth
How many teeth can be replaced with a bridge?
Bridges can replace anywhere from 1-4 (or possibly more) missing teeth. However, it’s essential that healthy teeth or implants exist on either side of the gap to hold the bridge in place.
Are dental bridges permanent?
There are both fixed bridges, which remain in place 24/7, and partial bridges, which can be taken out for adjustments and cleaning.
How do I protect against gum disease?
You must take great care to prevent gum disease to maintain oral health, particularly when you’re missing teeth. Thorough (but gentle) brushing and regular exams and cleanings are essential.

“I had so much apprehension going into today after dealing with a large chain where I was made to feel really badly for the state of my teeth. Both the hygienist and doctor were very comforting and I walked away feeling great. I can’t say enough great things about this place and can confidently say that I will be a customer for life.”
